Is Entertainement sector relying too much on nostalgic factor?

I am a big movie buff. If there is a new movie or new series out, I will be the first one in my friend circle to watch it. Recently I watched Succession, it is the best drama series available in the 21st century. I am literally a salesperson for it. Whenever there is a conversation going on about a series or a movie, I will just start talking about it till the eternity. Season 4 will be out next year and I hope it won't crash like Game of Thrones. I have cravings for good movies and series and because of the nostalgic factor there is definitely a shortage of good series/movies. Even in gaming sectors the same is happening people are intended to buy more nostalgic games rather than buying new stuff. Some of the gaming companies totally rely on nostalgic factors.

So, last year we all watched Friends Reunion and now Harry Potter Reunion and there will definitely be more to follow soon. The production house is just milking the cow and churning out more revenue at a very nominal cost. It's an easy way to make money for them and definitely it lacks creativity. The first instance I can recall of such a movie selling the nostalgic factor was Forrest Gump, and it turned out to be one of the greatest movies of all time. The reason behind the success of the movie was so many nostalgic factors in the movie from Elvis Presley, John F. Kennedy, first ever China trip. If you can write a good story with a nostalgic event, you can do great. Bollywood is also making an adaptation of Forrest Gump, and I can bet on it that it will cross the $100 million mark easily.

Nostalgia is a common factor in modern game design – if a new game is an imitation, sequel or remake of an older game, it’s bound to be popular among players who enjoyed its predecessor.

Gaming industries also heavily rely on old games- they are selling the same game with better graphics. Recently GTA relaunched San-Andreas, Vice City and GTA 5 definitive edition, which is just the same game, almost the same mission with better graphics. The sales figures of such games show the demand for such games is so high irrespective of the crativity they bring. I think humans are fond of living in the comfort zone and not trying something new; they will just watch their old series again and again or buy the better graphic version of the same game they have been playing from ages. For example, EA Sports doesn't make drastic changes in the newer edition of FIFA. (better graphics and just small changes in the game play) One of the major companies, which is based in Japan, is drastically dependent on the characters they developed in 1981, the company sold 75 million games on the same character and has a revenue of $150 million. Guess the name of the company? (write it in the comment section on linkdein or send me a personal message or you can just post a comment here)

There are so many movies which are earning a huge amount of revenue from past success/Franchise. Seriously, now I am tired of  seeing Vin Diesel driving a car and saying "anything for family". Fast and Furious earned revenue of $726 million, whereas Nomadland (academy award winner, 2020) earned revenue of $39 million. In 2022 mission impossible will launch the new movie in the same franchise. At the start of 2022, we all watched Spiderman no way home with all the nostalgic factor. The best Spiderman movie out there (mine personal favorite is Spiderman into the Spider-verse). There is Harry Potter reunion. People are demanding reunions of The Office, How I Met Your Mother, Breaking Bad, and there are so many I can not list them all.

I was just thinking if right now we are watching all the reunions; What we are going to watch after 20 years, the reunion of the reunion of the XYZ movie/series.
